  • Features – 5% of school age children, most cases have no known etiology, onset is during elementary school, types include reading, mathematics, and disorders of written expression;   learning achievement of the patient is extremely below expectations in a given subject based on his age, IQ, or education, also low self esteem and social immaturity, school failure and behavioral disturbances are common
  • Treatment – special education, counseling, treat other medical/psychiatric conditions
  • Associated features – lead poisoning, fetal alcohol syndrome, conduct disorders, oppositional defiant disorder, ADHD, cognitive problems
